Let's celebrate! We are marking 25 years of greening Armenia here at ATP. None of this would have been possible without your support. So thank you, and congratulations for making this possible.
Our work is picking up as we prepare for the fall season of anniversary events and programs in the US and Armenia. I’m heading on the road to meet people at community events, schools, and churches. We’d love to meet like-minded people who want to learn about our cause and get involved. I hope to meet you at one of these events in the coming months! This fall we’ll be in New York, Philadelphia, Fresno, and Boston to celebrate our 25th.
Even more exciting is what we have planned in Armenia. A few highlights:
ATP is co-sponsoring the first-ever Forest Summit in October in Armenia, in partnership with AUA’s Acopian Center for the Environment. Experts from around the globe will convene to discuss Armenia’s goal to double its forest cover by 2050.
Our Forestry team will hire an additional 50-60 people to plant 180,000 trees in northern Armenia for the fall planting season. We’ve planted more than 1,000 hectares of new forest to date.
Our Community Tree Planting (CTP) department is planning to plant more than 23,000 trees at 90 sites all over Armenia and Artsakh during the fall planting season. The total number of CTP sites is almost 1,300!
The experts in our Environmental Education department will provide lessons to more than 1,500 students at our two Ohanian education centers, and work with youth in the student eco-clubs we have established throughout Armenia.
Finally, we are on track to plant our six millionth tree this fall, which calls for celebration!
Usually when I write to you at this time of year, we’re asking for donations to the Annual Appeal. This fall I’m asking you to support our 25th anniversary campaign. Your support will help us to continue ATP’s important work for another 25 years and beyond.
Here is a page that outlines our 25th anniversary giving opportunities. You can sponsor a Community Tree Planting site, name a walkway in our Karin Nursery, sponsor a Backyard Nursery, or contribute any amount to ATP’s Forestry Fund.
By the way, our 2020 calendar will feature our hugely popular “before and after photos,” which highlight the success of our community tree plantings. I’m sending copies of the calendar out as a gift to anyone who donates $100 or more so please join us!
